Join me to help create a more equitable and just future with the diverse communities of 62B.
Meet Anquam.
My name is Anquam (ahn-AHM) Mahamoud, and I am running to be your next State Representative in MN House District 62B.
I moved to Minnesota at the age of 8, and grew up in the East Phillips Neighborhood. My family experienced poverty like many of our neighbors, struggling to make ends meet with little healthcare access. My single mom fought hard to provide for me and my siblings. These sacrifices inform my work and advocacy daily.
I graduated from St. Catherine University with my B.S. in Psychology, becoming one of the first state caseworkers with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) rollout. I knew helping others get access to healthcare was where I wanted to be. I kept at it, and I rose to be the State Planning Director for Individual Market Policy, Eligibility and Enrollment for MNsure. Here I helped provide continued oversight and implementation of the ACA, leading strategic efforts, communications, and budget creation in the tens of millions of dollars, ensuring quality and affordability in the marketplace for people across the state. While at the MNSURE, I was a member of AFSCME and MAPE labor unions.
Now, as Chief Operating Officer of Twin Cities Health Services on Lake and Hennepin, I work (often one-on-one) with some of our most vulnerable and unhoused neighbors, helping them navigate our services in a holistic manner: adult rehabilitative mental health therapy, substance use services, and identifying and resolving all barriers which exist between an individual and securing safe, affordable housing. No job is too small: a hygiene kit, new I.D., and quite simply a conversation are often some of the most important tools for our clients in reclaiming their identity — and humanity — along their healing journey. I’ll bring these stories and approaches to our work at the state legislature.
While healthcare is just one piece of the puzzle, I know that all Minnesotans are looking for the same holistically rooted foundation when they lay down at night: Health, Education, Affordable Housing, Clean Air and Water, and a bright future for their families. I’m inviting you to collaborate with me and ALL residents in our diverse and vibrant 62B to maintain and grow progressive wins at the legislature in 2025.
In partnership,
Anquam
